What is an Independent Baptist Church?
First Baptist Church has a two-fold mission:
1. To carry out "The Great Commission" of Jesus Christ. That is, to present the good news of the Gospel wherever and however we can according to Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15, and Acts 1:8. This means that we believe all people are sinners (Romans 3:23) and that Jesus died and rose again from the dead so that sinners can be saved simply by trusting Jesus Christ as their Savior from their sinful nature (Romans 5:8; 6:23; 10:9,10,13).
2. To instruct believers. After a person has trusted Christ as their Savior, it is the work of First Baptist Church to baptize them by immersion, and to give them spiritual and practical guidance for their lives by making relevant modern day applications through the timeless teachings of the Bible (Matthew 28:18-20).
We believe that the Great Commission is to be accomplished both locally and globally (Acts 1:8). We do this through an aggressive Missions Program and local outreach.
1. Locally. This is why First Baptist Church has an outreach to children, teenagers and adults. All of this is accomplished through our Sunday School, Discovery Kids, Vacation Bible School, Bus, Teen, Visitation and Adult Ministries.
2. Globally. First Baptist Church fulfills it's worldwide obligation through National and Foreign Mission Outreaches. First Baptist Church supports missionary families all around the world in order to help build and establish churches in places that it could never go. We currently support approximately 23 missions projects, both locally and globally.
It has been said, "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care!" Our church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints. It is our desire to help all who will come to First Baptist Church by giving them solutions to life's problems through a Biblical presentation of the Gospel and through sound Bible teachings just as Jesus Christ would give them.
We sometimes meet people who ask that very question. By the word "Independent," we simply mean that we don't answer to a convention or to some higher organization. It means that we are a self-governing, self-sustaining, self-organizing, self-funding, local, New Testament Bible believing Baptist Church. We believe that each member of our church answers directly to Jesus Christ for their lives.
By the word "Baptist," we mean that we hold to the Biblical principles that identify Baptist churches such as Biblical Authority, Autonomy of the local church, Priesthood of the Believer, and more. Baptist people are simply sinners who have invited Jesus Christ into their lives through the New Birth Experience (John 3:1-7) and have obediently followed Jesus in Scriptural baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:18-20). While there are many religious institutions by which to identify, we are distinctly different than all others because we align with those Biblical principals mentioned above.
By the word "Church," we mean that we are a body of scripturally baptized believers who have banded together for the purpose of worshiping God and carrying out the Lord's Commission to evangelize the world. We believe that we are to act as the ambassadors of Jesus Christ to the world, carrying on activities as if Jesus was present Himself.
